When I first had the idea to sell bracelets to raise money for cancer research, I didn't figure I'd make much of an impact on anyone; a cure for cancer certainly won't be cheap. The first time I sold bracelets, I remember everyone's encouraging words that were always followed by something along the lines of, "no matter how much you make I'm proud of you." In fact, at the smaller sales I've gone to since then, sometimes people even encourage me to stay home. Because "no one goes to garage sales on saturday and it's raining anyways." Despite their doubt I've always gone, and I've always made more money than anyone really expected. Many have asked how much I hope to raise, and I always reply that I never really thought about it. I just try to do what I can and let the rest play out. With the doubt that others and even myself have had, I certainly never imagined I would raise over $1000. I mean, it was a distant dream that maybe over the course of many years the total would climb that high, but I didn't truly believe it would happen. Well, I'm incredibly thankful to all of those that have supported Tying Up Cancer when I say that we've exceeded the $1000 mark at our last sale! My heart really goes out to all of those that have donated, whether or not they even bought a bracelet. Without all of you, I wouldn't have raised any money as all I contribute is the bracelets. It amazes me how kind some individuals are; it's so beautiful to see a little kid come up that decides to spend their money to help others instead of on a new toy. I love when someone explains that they know no one interested in wearing a bracelet, but they would love to give a donation anyways, and the personal stories some people share are so touching. I realize now that although we might doubt our true potential, by working together we really can make a difference. Anyways, thank you so much to all of those that have contributed in some way or another! You have all touched my lives in ways I never expected.
