The Tuclet Initiative
1000 Bracelets
When 1000 4 inch flat poly bags show up on your doorstep, it's hard to come up with a legitimate reason not to use them to start an initative. Tuclets are handmade friendship bracelets (like the ones you can purchase for yourself or a friend, here). The Tuclet Initiative is special in that the bracelets are given to cancer patients and in that it's an initiative (and face it, who doesn't want to be a part of something that sounds as important as an initiative?). Now of course you can always purchase any bracelet and give it to a patient of whom you personally know, but Tying Up Cancer wanted to directly help improve patients' quality of life. Our hope is that tuclets will remind patients that we are constantly supporting them and fighting with them. To buy a bracelet for a cancer patient and remind them that they have your support, follow this link.
The Tuclet Initiative will ultimately give 1000 bracelets to 1000 cancer patients. Sold at $5 a piece, the initiative will raise a total of $5000 for pediatric cancer research. Now that, indeed, is what we consider an initiative. When you purchase a tuclet, it is given to a cancer patient with a message of support from Tying Up Cancer as well as "a random stranger" (you) who wanted to support a cancer patient by buying them a bracelet. All the proceeds are donated just as that of the original bracelets you can still purchase. An initiative, by definition, is energy or aptitude displayed in the cause of the beginning of some action (thanks, Merriam-Webster). With your help (and with our energy) we know that we can initiate an action that will change the lives of at least 1000 people.
